OnePlus Released First Android 11 Beta for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro
OnePlus has been quite nifty and is now allowing its OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro users to enroll for the Android 11 Beta 1 that was released yesterday. OnePlus has joined the Google Pixel smartphone rank as one of the first to let its users experience new Android features. This build is currently available on the OnePlus Forums as Developer Preview program.
Google has silently available Android 11 public beta after the cancellation of the I/O 2020 developers conference set originally for June 3. Android 11 in its first beta update has focussed on three aspects– People, Controls, and Privacy. Google mentioned that the company wants to make Android “more people-centric and expressive by reimagining the way we have conversations on our phones.”
As it is the first public beta release of Android 11 build of OxygenOS so it has a few bugs. These beta releases are not intended for general users and should not be installed on the primary device. Here's a list of known bugs and issues in Android 11:
- All data will be cleared while flashing the build
- Face unlock is unavailable
- Google Assistant (“OK Google”) does not work
- Google Pay Not Working due to security flaws
- Video calling does not work
- Certain UI screens look less than desirable
- Some apps may not function as expected
- System stability issues
“This build offers access to an early build of Android 11. It is targeted at early adopters and developers so that they can create and optimize apps for the platform as well as report early feedback. As it is still in an early stage of development, we do not recommend flashing this ROM if you have little experience in software development. Proceed at your discretion,” says OnePlus. This software update may risk bricking your smartphone as you're not used to flashing beta builds. However, this build is not compatible with T-Mobile and Verizon variants of OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.
The installation process is similar to how you usually do for the OxygenOS beta builds – local upgrade. Before proceeding further, make sure to take a full backup, have at least 50 percent battery and 3GB of free internal storage. To proceed further, download the suitable zip file to your phone, go to Settings > System > System Updates > Local upgrade.
