Google To Add a Toggle to Turn Off Smart Features and Personalization in Gmail, Meet & Other Google Apps

In order to improve transparency, Google is adding new settings to help user to control smart features and personalization in Gmail, Meet, and other Google services. This new feature has been put on after company’s previous addition to allow users to auto-delete web and location history data stored in their Google Account.

The Smart features in Gmail reflects to the comfortable addition like automatic email filtering, tabbed inbox, summary cards above emails, Smart Compose, and Smart Reply. Moving ahead, you will now see a toggle to turn on and off the smart features based upon your preference.

Google has also working on some changes in personalization in your Gmail, Chat, and Meet data. If you opt to personalize your data, it will offer you features like Assistant reminders for bills, the option to view restaurant reservation in Maps, and loyalty cards & tickets for Google Pay (not Tez). While if you thinking to disable this feature as per privacy concern, then it will limit access for all these features.

Google acknowledges these new controls are not new. In fact, you can separately disable all of these features right now. However, the company is aiming to make the process easier for all Gmail users with these new quick toggles. What is new is are the controls for how the company can and will process your personal data t enable additional features as mentioned above. If your turn off these features, Google will be given permission to use data from Gmail, Chat and Meet.

While these features are not something new and Google also acknowledged it. In fact, you can separately disable all these features right now. But Google is aiming to make the process a little easier for all Gmail users with these new quick toggles.

Google explains, “What’s new is a clearer choice over the data processing that makes them possible. This new setting is designed to reduce the work of understanding and managing that process, in view of what we’ve learned from user experience research and regulators’ emphasis on comprehensible, actionable user choices over data

The company has said that it will roll out the new controls for smart features and personalization in the coming weeks. Once it becomes available, we could expect the company to send out a pop-up notification to alert users.
