Google Photos Not to Offer Free Unlimited Storage from June next Year
Google offers one of best feature through its Google Photos which is unlimited backups at reduced high quality. But this feature is going away from June 1, 2021 while the new images and videos you upload to Google Photos will count towards the free 15 GB storage that offered with every Google Account in order to promote Google One service.
While the changes will not impact the media files which you already have uploaded to the Google Photos. So, photos and videos uploaded before June 1 will remain available and will not affect the 15 GB storage limit. In a blog post, Google says, "This change allows us to keep pace with the growing demand for storage…We know this is a big shift and may come as a surprise, so we wanted to let you know well in advance and give you resources to make this easier".
This Google Photos ' new storage policy still not affect the Pixel device users. The company will continue to provide unlimited uploads in high quality if you have a Pixel (1-5). This decision is another reason to fall users for Google's Pixel devices. However, it is not as appealing as Google’s previous offer which had unlimited original quality uploads on Pixel devices.
While for the convenience of the uses, Google offers a free tool to easily manage backup photos and videos. With this tool available next year, users can easily review and delete large photos, dark photos, and blurry images. You can also switch to Google One if you need more storage and exclusive filters.
With over 4 trillion photos and over 28 billion new photos and videos uploaded every week, Google Photos is the best solution for a wide range of users to back up their memories without worrying about storage caps. In retrospect, the decision seems inevitable but I’m glad Google didn’t impose the limit for over five years.
