WhatsApp Introduce Disappearing Messages Feature Live in Beta

WhatsApp announced a new disappearing messages feature a couple of weeks ago similar to what offered in Telegram and Snapchat. Once this ‘Disappearing messages’ feature enabled then the messages you send will automatically destruct in seven days. Well, WhatsApp has started testing the disappearing messages feature with a seven-day window. If it is enabled then the messages will remain intact in Chats for seven days and then get automatically destruct.

If you want the messages to disappear instantly after you send them then you should most certainly stick with Snapchat or Telegram. Otherwise, follow these steps to turn on or off the disappearing messages feature in WhatsApp.

How to Turn On/ Off WhatsApp Disappearing Messages

NOTE: This is new feature and if it is not available for your device then you should probably wait for WhatsApp to push the update for your device. Here, I have tested the disappearing messages feature on WhatsApp Beta version 2.20.207.2 on Asus Zenfone 5z, running Android 10.

 1. Open WhatsApp and move to the conservation for which you want to enable the disappearing messages feature and disappear after 7 days.

2. Tap on the contact’s profile picture and scroll down to see a new ‘Disappearing messages’ option. It should be right above the Encryption option.

3. Under the Disappearing messages, you can opt to turn it on and off. Select ‘On’ if you want the messages to disappear automatically.

4. Once it gets enabled, both you and the recipient will see the common notification “You turned on disappearing messages” in the chat window.

5. This feature is not only limited to the individual chats but you can also enable the disappearing messages for group chats but you have to be an admin to turn on this feature.

After enabling this feature, the profile picture will also include a timer icon to denote that the disappearing message is enabled. WhatsApp is currently offering a single seven-day option to automatically delete messages. Some rumors are suggesting that the messaging app will also feature more granular controls over the months. In some leaks, we have seen the time limit to be as low as 5 seconds ahead of the official beta release.

If you are eager, you can read all about this feature on the company’s support page from right here. But we suggest you use this feature only with trusted individuals as anyone could save your messages and screenshot them even if it enabled.
