15 Million Indian Androids out of 25M Globally hit by 'Agent Smith' Malware

The latest research has revealed that around 25 M Android globally attacked by malware for app like Whatsapp and few others, reported by a security company called Check Point. According to the report, a malware called Agent Smith infected 25 million Android smartphone across the globe. In this malware attack, the most affected are from India with 15 Million user followed by more that 300,000 users from US and 137,000 users from UK.

The Check Point report also suggest that Agent Smith malware find the loopholes in Google's Android System and go through the installed apps in the device like Whatsapp and replace the earlier installed Playstore Whatsapp with the malware's weaponized app that shows ads. Agent Smith hides as a code under these installed apps and further hides the icon from the App launcher on Android, this would be much scary than what seems right now rather than just showing some ads.

Now just consider this, as it replaces the original app code so then with all granted permission of your apps just think what can happen. Agent Smith could possibly attack banking apps, shopping apps and other security and personal security based sensitive apps and information. The malware is not easily recognized by a general user whether they affected or not as this already replace original app code.

This malware has been spread by a third-party app store like 9app.com parented by China based Alibaba company. The researchers have reported to Google along with the law enforcement agencies about this Agent Smith malware. But Google hasn't said anything about this malware yet.
