iPhone 12 Series Doesn’t Support 5G in Dual SIM Mode

Apple has recently launched its iPhone 12 series with a lot of improvement including display, better drop protection, better camera, better processor, 5G support and many more. Apple has a lot about 5G during its Apple event this month, even getting Verizon CEO Vestberg to talk about Verizon’s Ultrawide band 5G coverage and more. But Apple has actually forgot to mention a critical issue with its iPhone 12’s 5G support.

Apparently, if you are using dual sim on your iPhone 12, you won’t be getting 5G network on either one of them. That’s according to a leaked Apple training document that has been doing the rounds on Reddit. As per the document, Apple has mentioned:

DOES 5G WORK WITH DUAL SIM?

WHEN USING TWO LINES IN DUAL SIM MODE, 5G DATA ISN’T SUPPORTED ON EITHER LINE AND WILL FALL BACK TO 4G LTE. IF CUSTOMERS ARE USING ESIM ONLY AND ARE ON A 5G SUPPORTED CARRIER AND SERVICE PLAN, THEY’LL HAVE 5G ACCESS.

This has felt cheating, specially on a flagship smartphone starting from $699 (₹69,900 for iPhone 12 mini in India which is $950) onward. According to the MacRumors, Apple is planning to fix this issue in future with a software update but the company has so far refused to comment on either the training document, the 5G dual SIM situation or any plans for a software fix in the way. As for now, if you are hoping to 5G usability on dual SIM on your upcoming iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 won’t allow you that (can be fixed in future).

We are very much optimistic about some software update to fix this dual SIM situation issue but it’s not a good idea to make your buying decisions based on hopes and dreams, and it’s worse as the company has not said about anything about any future update to fix this problem. But it shouldn’t be problem for Indians as there is no 5G infrastructure available in the country and even the iPhone 12 series sold globally (except U.S.) doesn’t have mmWave support(only sub-6GHz) so not full-flexed 5G support yet provided by the company and this may happens in an another year or two year.
