Instagram To Add ‘Disappearing Mode’ for Direct Messages Like Snapchat

The popular social media site Instagram has been working on disappearing mode for Direct Messages similar to Snapchat. This feature was previously spotted by app reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong and Wong has tweeted an improved user interface of the feature.

The messages sent while in disappearing mode hi away once user exist the chat similar to Snapchat's ephemeral messages implementation. There's also a cool animation while user enters the disappearing mode. In this mode, the text explaining the feature as "Messages will disappear after they’ve been seen”, similar to Snapchat.

Since it is supposed to be a more private conversation than the regular DMs so it wouldn't be surprising if the company naively disable the screenshot gesture or notified the other end about it. While the feature previously spotted in March, the company confirmed that as, "We’re always exploring new features to improve your messaging experience. This feature is still in early development and not testing externally just yet!”, in a tweet.
But in the recent tweet of Wong, the interface looks more refined so we are expecting about its announcement in the coming weeks or months. While this feature can't even force user to move out of Snapchat to Instagram. This is my thought, feel free to share yours.
