MediaTek Dimensity 820 5G Announced with 80MP Camera, 120Hz Display Support and More
Along with the alleged rumors, MediaTek has unveiled its newest 5G supported SoC named Dimensity 820 5G. Company has already have Dimensity 800 SoC in its cards while it's seems to moved up with improvements. While Dimensity 820 has got its place behind Dimensity 1000 SoC while it can compete with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC which features in mid-range smartphones.
While new Dimensity 820 is based on the same previous TSMC's 7nm FinFET processor and has the same core architecture while having the higher frequency. Dimensity 820 SoC is an octa-core processor which comes with four high performance core Cortex-A76 which are clocked at up to 2.6GHz compared to the 2.0GHz clocked frequency in the Dimensity 800 SoC while the other four efficiency Cortex-A55 cores continue to have the 2.0GHz clocked frequency.
The Dimensity 820 SoC has been coupled with the 5 core ARM Mali-G57 GPU compared to the previously used 4 core GPU on the Dimensity 800. While the company has not been interested to share the clock speed of the GPU but it does come with the HyperEngine2.0 support for the enhanced gaming performance.
The processor does supports up to Full-HD+ 120Hz display panels in comparison to 90Hz panels on its predecessor. MediaTek further adds that smartphone manufacturers can offer HDR10 support, convert content from SD to HD, and more using its MiraVision display technology.
